Information regarding the referral process can be found at https://metronorth.health.qld.gov.au/specialist_service/refer-your-patient/neurology/seizuresepilepsy
Category 1 referrals are seen within 30 days. Indications for a category 1 referral include:
First epileptic seizure (as convulsive syncope is a common mimic, may be seen by general medicine prior to neurology, depending on local pathways)
Frequent seizure activity with current anticonvulsants use
High seizure frequency without antiepileptic therapy
Pregnancy in a patient with known epilepsy
New diagnosis of epilepsy (confirmed or highly likely)
Although Metro North Health is responsible for providing public health services to the people who reside within its boundaries, special consideration is made for patients requiring tertiary care by a comprehensive epilepsy service.
